two years after the original photo series was taken, a pandemic shook the world. a revolution of racial justice surged. Life drastically changed for us all & being an artists & black women evolved in ways we could not have imagined. we still decided to capture our joy.
The second photo series, captured in 2022, featured the same women with an extended story. Who were these women now, after 2 years, after a pandemic, after George Floyd?
In this series of photos, the subtle contrast of gold details alongside pieces of denim reflects the often subconscious ability to coexist as "one" but also "the other". It represents the beautiful challenge of being a creative Black woman in a city known for cowboys boots, in a corporate oil town. The themes of royalty and joy were still protected, and we shot in a new city structure, symbolic of the passing time.
We also had begun creating our documentary.
